Is the vert exhaust the same as the hardtop?

Also, I don't have headers, is there a nice sounding exhaust system that anyone can recommend? I heard a lot of people like flowmaster, but the ones that come up say header not manifold. Its a stock 455 motor.

eventually I will have the motor rebuilt with a bit more cam to get that nice lope that I have loved since I was about 8. Just in case that changes the recommendation.

oh and 1 more, the current exhaust is 2". Can I run it for a summer if I want, or will it damage my engine?

Yes.

I think you'll find far more people who hate (no)Flowmasters due to the obnoxious drone and the fact that despite being loud and obnoxious, they regularly place among the most restrictive mufflers in testing. Exhaust sound quality is extremely subjective. Personally I really like Walker Dynomax turbos. I usually use the 14" versions on musclecars. I put the 21" versions on my D88. Nice musclecar sound without the drone. My experience includes both manifolds and headers. I usually use a 2.5" system with a BBO.

You aren't going to damage the engine.

I am running the exhaust that is on it for now. I will probably wait on exhaust until after rebuild in a year or two.

Food for thought when you finally purchase an exhaust- Pypes is the only supplier that offers kits specifically for the through-the-bumper '68-'72 442 and '70-'71 GTO. The tailpipes are designed to fit those applications. An A-Body kit from Flowmaster or MagnaFlow will fit, but the tailpipes will probably need to be tweaked to a degree in order to exit exactly right.
