'68 Dual Gate Over/Under Carpet?

Putting a dual gate in a '68 vert. Can some tell me if the dual gate was bolted on top of the carpet or was the carpet cut and the feet bolted straight to the tranny tunnel?

Thanks, Mike

Don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I just changed out the original carpet for new in my '69 4-4-2 (Fremont car) with the THM400 on the console (not dual gate). The carpet was cut around the shifter assembly and the shifter assembly was directly fastened to the hump.

I bolted the Dual gate to the floor...

I don't really know what prompted me to do it that way...seemed logical at the time
