'68 442 - Color Surrounding Taillights

Should the material surrounding the taillights/bulb housings be silver or black? I've seen them in both colors, but not certain which is correct. Which ever color is correct, is there a specific type/brand of paint to use?

Thanks.

I think it's expose to be argent color like the wheels but not certain I had painted mine black but it didn't match the factory color.

If you are referring to the piece that surrounds the lense, it is supposed to be black. It's not flat, nor is it glossy - it's just about inbetween the two.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm referring to the item in the attached image where the arrows are pointing. Obviously this one is black. I didn't know if there's a hard/fast rule about the black or silver (argent). I've seen both on 442's. (BTW, I hope it was OK for me to "borrow" the image from "Tom442"'s thread about his BEAUTIFUL!!! '68 conv resto.)
I'm wondering if black may be for W cars and silver for "non-W" cars (?). Pure guess on my part.
Thanks.

Hi Tom,
Yes, the area where the arrows are pointed were originally black, as I described.
