From what I can see it needs a ton of work. The things I can't see, probably a ton more. I'm not a big fan of projects in the trunk vehicles. Maybe if he had called it a barn find it would be more valuable?

Ditto on the ton o work comment. That's a lot of money for something that needs a lot of work and no 442 documentation. He's asking for more money than I paid for my 69 and my 69 was in much better condition.

Run Simba!! Run far!! Run fast!! Don't look back!!! The moneypit awaits. Just way too much has been modified on that thing. I wouldn't buy it.

Last thing I would like to ask: What do you classify as 442 parts? Most of the parts on this car could be ordered or be on any other 1970 Cutlass. The term 442 is way overused and overstated on the web. Too many sellers look at parts with the idea it's worth way more than it is. They want the price of what it would be worth after restoration, instead of the actual condition price. That's one of the biggest rubs in the parts market. IMO the term 442 as a reference as a selling point is mostly used to trigger search engines when you're surfing the web for parts. Helps sellers get hits and then while you're there you might as well check out what else is on that site.

Perhaps my 442 reference was a little misleading...I'm just alluding to the high cost of parts for Cutlass's in general. I'm new to the Cutlass culture after just aquiring a project car through a friend, a project which was missing many key parts. I became very discouraged when I started looking for replacement parts...and found that there were lots of parts available although the prices on inidividual parts whether OEM or aftermarket would put my project well beyond the vehicles worth. I finally ended up purchasing a parts car and I believe that I can make a pretty decent project and still stay within a sane budget. Having said that, yes perhaps this Cutlass might be a bit optimistic by about a grand.

Vendor prices at Parts Place, Fusicks, Tamraz, Supercars Unlimited, Year One, etc are generally not negotiable. The ad you refered to with the 442 numbers? The asking price IS the selling price. No negotiation. That's not what Joe was alluding to. When cars and parts are put on auction as an open market bidding war, that's what we're talking about. A lot of sellers put items on the market with an inflated expectation of it's value. I, for one, know what Joe says is true and support his comment 110%.
I'm glad to hear that you have an Olds project to keep you busy. It only has to end up as good as you want it to. Not every car has to be rebuilt to new standards. Something to keep in mind when you're looking at a budget. We've all been there and know what you're trying to express. Hang in there and good luck with your project.
