1972 442 Convert.

Hello, I would like a little help from some experts. I am condsidering purchasing this 1972 442 conv. I am going to look at t this weekend and would like to know what you think it may be worth. According to the owner, it is an actual 442 that came with a 350. He put a 455 out of another 442 in it. He no longer has the origional 350. I think he wants somewhere around 20K.

That car has been on e-bay of and on for some time. It is a nice looking car and color. A picture is definately not like being there in person. The proce all depends on the condition. since it ios a convertible check the floor boards. Let us know how you make out.

Welcome

Welcome aboard

Nice car but from my limtied understanding of 72's it has some issues.

Patience will reward you with all [or more] than you ever wanted to know.

Good luck, just make sure you check all locations for rot, inside the fender wells trunk under the carpet. Wear old clothes and crawl all over the car. What I find odd is the outside is very detailed but the engine compartment is very dirty, leaking valve cover gaskets and some breather parts missing. Makes a guy wonder what is hidden. 20k is a lot of money in todays soft market. take your time on this.

Cant put my finger on exactly why, but my first response was...NOT. #year old complete resto? With wet a wet diff, and rocker covers I am thinking Complete repaint. Some other details that I cant put my finger on (not being an expert) would lead me to question the asking price. I am cheap azz, and the current economy has compounded that trait in me, but I would not likely pay half that were I in your shoes. That said the car is photogenic, and yes would likely be a lot of fun. If you are going to, look at that one in person if you can and get verification on everything you can. Just my opinion.

Well, here's the thing. A real 1972 442 would not have had both the 442 emblems AND the Oldsmobile letters on the trunklid. This is a Supreme convertible, not an original 442.

Also, for $20K, the seller could at least degrease the engine. Oh, and replace the chrome on the front end. And why would you pay a couple of hundred bucks for "new" grilles then paint them black (OK, I believe the grilles are new to that car )
