I have a 1970 442 W-30 Convertible with trim comb code 973. Does anyone know what this means? I found coding for just about everything else on the build sheet except this. Also my car is body number 306169. Did Oldsmobile start from "1" in 1970. What does "seq" stand for, mine is "145". Any info would be appreciated.

Trim code 973 would indicate the color of your interior.
I have a book at home that would list the colors and codes.

I do not understand the SEQ numbering so maybe someone else around here does. It may be a production number of some sort...

 

My book says 973 is Blue interior

I don't think they started with SEQ 1 but I'm not sure

 

Are we talking about VIN sequential build number or Fisher Body sequential build number? The VIN sequential build numbers usually started at 100000 in each plant and encompassed all cars built there - keep in mind that Cutlii and Skylarks were often built on the same line.

The 973 interior code is for blue bucket seats (for a convertible). I think the sequence # relates to the # built in the month.

 

Thanks everyone for the welcomes to the site. Always wanted a 442 (had a bunch of 71-72 Cutlass 10 years ago, really nice cars). Never figured I would end up with a stripper W-30. This car has bucket seats and a column shift. Glad to hear that 973 is a blue bucket seat interior. Thats what the seller represented to me in writing regarding this 18k mile car. Thanks all for the info.
