1970 original oil filler cap???

Which oil filler cap would be correct for a Fremont plant built 442 in late March of 1970???

Or... does anybody have some photos they could share of an original assembly line issued oil filler cap???

This???

I can't speak for the Fremont plant and how it might differ from others. But as far as I'm concerned, the top photo (ears on the side of the cap, not top of the cap) is the correct for 1970. That's what you see pictured in the assembly manual and chassis service manual, and that's what I've seen on original, unmolested cars.

I will mention, however, that I'm not sure if that exact part number, style of lettering, and crimping of the center thingy is correct. It all looks different than what I'm used to seeing, but I can't tell you why, off the top of my head.

For what it's worth, my Cutlass S with 350 engine came out of the Fremont plant in May 1970 (happy 40th!) and has the cap shown in the upper picture.

I have several originals and they are the top photo.....

Several of our vendors out there are selling the bottom one as the correct item... I met with them at Seven Springs and they not the problem and are working on getting the correct item
