1969 442 - Change a Key tumbler in a cylinder

I wanted to rekey my 442 so I purchased a complete set. Unfortunately the ignition switch is NOT for a 442 although it does fit and will work.......NOT what I wanted!!

Anyway does anyone know how to swipe out the tumblers? All I'm trying to do is transfer the new key to the correct switch assembly so I don't have an extra key.

The current switch (see photo) is in the column with a new GM key. The other two cylinders, one from a donor the other the new switch from a vendor I will not mention and it is not what came in a 69.

I have the equipment and tools to rekey locks. PM me for more info. FYI, any repro lock set you buy will be that generic late model stuff. There are no correct repros of the 1969 cylinders.

The ignition lock assembly is pressed together and not really made to be taken apart. It can be done but peening over ring on back of cylinder is the hard part. Answer is yes it can be done I'm sure by Joe or myself.

Ok, thanks you answered my question. I saw no easy way to disassemble it and you have confirmed its pressed together. I'll leave it as it is for now. I have a spare so if I decide to try nothing lost. Thanks, Al

I have some factory key blanks. if you will tell me the code, I might can match it and you can have it cut to match the aftermarket key in the cylinder.

Also if your using donor lock and key as it is correct then the other licks can be keyed t match providing ignition physically slides into locks.
