Well, stripe and emblem location are correct, and the red inner fenders look like they were born in that car, so those are good signs. Manual disc brakes were not an option on the 1968 cars, but that could be a conversion or just an incorrect M/C. Obviously the engine has been incorrectly painted gold. Front seats have been recovered. The grill emblem is one row too high. Contrary to what the ad says, those are NOT original 1968 SSII wheels (which makes every other claim in the ad suspect). On the other hand, 4.33 gears WERE standard equipment with a four speed on the W-30 in 68 (mine has them also). My biggest concern, since I grew up in that area, is that rust free cars are not found in nature there. Alaska would also not be my first choice for a rust-free car, but who knows? The car looks clean, so history on it would be helpful. If it's as represented, that's a decent price.
Dean, that car is at a kind of new collectible car dealer on Rt 20 (High Octane). A W30 friend from Boston mentioned it to me. I'd agree with Joe that those fenderwells, the air cleaner, hoses...they look like they belong there, the patina. Normaly, they do consignment cars. I don't think they're like Gateway, they know about numbers. I was a little surprised to see the trunk like that for an AK car. You have to love color combo if it's right. I love a red interior with black. Hate the stinkbug stance, though!
I guess it would need a good inspection to confirm all the numbers. Why people don't take pictures of numbers when they make a claim is beyond me. VIN stamp, engine casting, heads casting, dist number, carb number, cowl tag, alt number, trans number, rear end code, etc.
Apparently $50k gets you a car that you have to hot wire...
It may be real but anyone that would pay anywhere near that should have their head examined.

You can also see the outline of where the washer hose used to be on the passenger inner fender and it's in the correct location

More likely it's the classic broken 1968 ignition switch retainer.
I've never broken one. As long as you try remove the retainer with the lock cylinder removed it's not a problem
Maybe that's why the glove box door is hanging there too (I've never had that metal rod break either)
