1967 442 Vinyl Top Trim Clips

OK, so when I was wondering about the gap at the A pillar, I included a couple of shots of my next step -- preparing for a vinyl top installation by attaching some trim clips. Now the top is on, but the guy that did the top seemed to have a hard time with the rear section of the aluminum trim attaching clips and "installed" a couple of dents in the trim. I've gotten replacement trim pieces and removed the clips from the old piece. Now I would like to know if there is a secret to installing these so I don't make the same mistake he made. I'm pretty sure the clips are AuVeCo 12962, about 5/16" across and 3/4" long. Top installed and clips:

Sails trim threaded retainers

They tend to want to oxidize & not a bad idea to paint / anti- size them
don't over tighten
Assistant is priceless or near cost of trim at least

lube such as petroleum jelly or graphite helps plastic retainers do what you want them to.
Especially if not oem & out of specs that plants retainers maintained interchangeability with
Warm water improves plastic retainers ease of installation somewhat, as does warmer ambient temp.

If you are talking about the trim on the C Pillar that goes from the quarter window to the front of the trunk. Then around the corner to the base of the back window? The original trim clips are approx 1/4 inch high and 1 1/2 to 2 inches long with a number 6 hole in each end. Don't have picture handy would have to go to shop and dig around. I have spare top trim and some clips, exactly where may take some time to find. I don't remember any clips like you show on my vinyl top trim. Maybe somebody has picture, if not I'll look.

Yes the clip shown is used on that molding. The longer slide clips are used on the side and the stud clips are used @ the corner and where the trim ends @ the rear glass.
