1966 442 Intake Valley Pan Installation

I will be in the process of assembling my 1966 442 400cu engine and I am wondering if there is anything special I should do when installing the intake manifold and pan or just follow the instructions that came with valley pan?

Spray the intake gasket with permatex copper sealer. Use ultra black rtv at the water passages and use rtv instead of the front and rear rubber seals. Be sure the coined protrusions fit into the corresponding holes in the heads when positioning the gasket. Tighten the bolts in factory order in steps. After running, let it cool and retorque.

Where did you get a new valley pan? OPG doesn't carry it. Or can I straighten up my old one and re-use?

Do not attempt to reuse the old gasket. The bead around each port is crushed during installation, which is how it seals. Once crushed, they will not seal again. FelPro sells the gasket, available at any auto parts store.

John,

Be sure to get someone to help you. If you are using the stock intake, it weighs a ton!
