Converter spacer washers

Ok. Using the transdapt kit to bolt my 438 to a Chevy trans. The kit came with 2 spacer washers for the converter to Flexplate bolts. Its not enough. I have to pull converter completely into the crank boss to come right. I've read some reviews where some people have said they needed 3 washers on each bolt. My question is would it matter if the 3 rd washer was a lock washer? Its all I have around that's the correct diameter/thickness. I don't see why it would hurt anything, and maybe even help keep things tight.

When used a bell housing adapter and aftermarket converters, that need the gap filled, regular washers work fine.

The proper way is to have a converter built to take care of the bell housing difference.
We built a ton of converters for race cars that used a mid-plate. All we asked was the thickness of the plate and built the converter accordingly. This procedure was also done when someone had a transmission they were mounting to a different brand engine.
IMHO washers are a poor way to go.
Do it right - once
