87 cutlass with trans trouble

, i bought my car a month and a half ago maybe more it has 180k+miles on it and about a week after i got it she started slipping, jumping through 1st and 2nd and i was pissed the other day i got in it and started it and it lurched forward while it was in park. i had to drive home 20mph in 2nd because thats the only thing that would grab. its got the 5.0 motor i dont know 305 or 307 and i dont know what kind on transmission it was besides column shift with overdrive m is there anyway to fix my car short of putting in a rebuilt?

You could......
-Get your cables adjusted and transmission analyzed at a local shop
-Go yank one from the boneyard and hope it's good.
-Get it rebuilt locally by an appropriate shop
-Order a nice one from TCI http://www.compperformancegroupstore...ct_Code=381060

-Check Craigslist everyday until someone posts a decent Buick Olds or Pontiac transmission for cheap.
-Cut the floor out and Fred Flintstone it. (not recommended)

If you have Overdrive, your trans is probably a 2004R
If it just has Drive than it is probably a 200C

If your motor is orange and has the alternator on the passenger side, it's probably a Chevy.
If it is Black and the alternator is on the driver's side it's probably a 307
If it is fire hydrant red it's probably a Buick

Check to see if the oil tube behind the water pump (Oldsmobile).
The others are right also.
