Steel vs Cast Iron Distributer Gear

Hi all, I'm looking at buying a HEI distributor and it has a steel gear on it and I was wondering if this would be ok on a Comp Cam hydraulic flat tappet cam blank that was custom ground by dick miller or would this cam take a cast iron gear? Don't feel like wiping out my cam so I want to make sure I go with the right option. Thanks

Aren't all Olds dist'r gears made of steel? Unless you buy a brass/bronze one.

I'm not sure about what material the stock gears were made of but a lot of aftermarket distributors have the option of either steel or cast iron along with bronze.

Thanks for the link. That site makes it sound like i would need a cast iron gear. I also called comp cams and dick miller for their opinion. The comp tech said he recommends a cast iron gear but when i asked Dick he said the steel will be fine. So not sure what to take from that.

Doesn't comp make a cast iron gear for Oldsmobile? I would run with the recommendation of the cam manufacturer.
