Does anyone know where to buy a set of .30 or .60 over pistons for a 400 engine?

Check Kanter, They used to list them.

I thought you decided to go with the 455

edit: I just looked at Kanter and they list pistons for a 65-69 400......bullsh!t. They used to list 68-69.....

 

Well I rebuilt the top end of the 400 and I'm just pricing out some parts for a future (2 years from now) total build. Who knows maybe I will do a 455 but I like having a numbers matching car to.

Decisions decisions...

But how about we step out of the box;

68-69 400/455 Olds crank, 4.25 stroke
65-67 400/425 Olds Rod, 7.00in length
Keith Black Icon IC846 Mopar piston, 1.465 comp distance.

2.125(half the stroke)+7.00+1.465+10.590. Stock deck height is around 10.625, you can cut the deck if you like. Just an fyi, the popular combination in a 455 of the L2323 piston, stock rod and crank comes in at 10.595.

IC846 Piston is 3.910 std bore available in std., .030, .040, .060 over with a .984 pin. You can hone the Olds rod (.980) .004 to fit or bush it for the .984 pin. Plus that .984 pin is much lighter than the Olds/Pontiac .980 pin.
Compression would be around 9.75-10.0:1 depending on deck height etc.


Problem solved, and with a much better piston with a much better ring pack. If the walls are thick enough you could also use the IC744 with a 4.00 bore. Compression distance and pin size are the same as the IC846.

I used Egge. They messed one of them up and was a bit of a pain to get them to replace it. But they did come through eventually.

No haven't done it but I'm all about trying different combinations.

I would say apples to apples the overbore to 4.00 would probably get you another 30-40hp/tq.
But that would open up the possibility of a larger cam, carb etc. And the insides would be a bunch lighter, that's always a good thing.
