The full size cars through 1964 (except for the 1964 Jetstar 88) still used the 9.3" Olds/Pontiac axle with the drop out center section.

Was the 64 Buick axle the same as the Olds and Pontiac?
The one I have has 1" upper control arm bushings...
Monza verified this when he saw the pics he was sent...

2.56 ratio

That's a code 2 stamped on the carrier. Only f/s olds and goats will have this ratio. This fits 57 thru 64 9.3 rear axles. I am upgrading a 57/58 rear axle.

9.3 inch olds/pontiac rearend 2.56 ratio

I dont think the jetstar uses the 9.3 inch rear end and the convertable is likely too heavy to have such a low ratio. I think it only occurs in basic 88 and Catilina without a/c. But i keep hoping one will surface. Ron

Update. I have purchased a very nice 2.56 carrier out of a 62 pontiac. I would like to retain my 1957/1958 axles. Can i move the internal side gears inside the case to the 2.56 case? Thanks. Ron

We cut 11/16" off a '63 98 axle to fit in my '57 housing with a '62 Pontiac 2:56 gear. Still working great after eight years.
