1970 cutlass convertible top adjustment needed how

Hi
i just got a new vinyl top on my 70 cutlass convertible.
I have read that the top should almost rest on the windshield header.
Mine is nowhere close. I have to wrestle it with 2 people to be able to latch it down.
Am i able to adjust the forward movement of the top while the top is on?
Can someone provide instructions, pictures, advice please.
Thank you
Rob

This is with it latched down. I'm afraid to unlatch it for fear of not being able to get it latched again.

All the windows are pretty good sealed and lined up with the new top.

I would latch the top and leave it for a week or so to let the vinyl stretch; it might line up better after that. New top needs some time to “break in”.

Ok, i do have it out in the sun. I'm hoping that will help.
Just don't think it's going to relax that much.

Letting it sit in the sun is a good idea, but if it still doesn't seem right, how about taking it back to the shop that installed it and ask them to adjust the mechanism?

Is this a new-to-you car? If not, how was the alignment before the new top was installed? I don’t recall needing any adjustments after I installed a new top on my car.

It needed some help to get it into the guide pin hole but nothing like now. I'll have to take it back to them and hope they don't argue about fixing it ugh

This is with the power top fully extended. It didn't touch.
