locking ring

i was in the procces of getting my front brakes done on my 70' 98 and i noticed that i did'nt have the driver side spindle locking ring. you know the one that keeps the nut from un-screwing in transit. the pasenger side has a coter pin to hold it on. does any one have one i can purchase? or know were i can get one. i also need rotors that will fit my 70' 98. thanks....Jay

I think there is a post on rotors for early 70s cars. I don't think they are readily available. If you do a search you might find more about it. I think you might be able to get the part you are looking for at the local auto parts store in the HELP section. You just need the stamped piece of steel that fits over the castle nut where the cotter pin goes through, right? Check out the following websites. They are good resources.

Nope. What he needs is the c-shaped clip that straddles the locknut, indexes into the key slot in the spindle and keeps the nut from backing off. It's made that way because most 1970 F/S cars drove the speedometer off the LF wheel. The cable runs thru the spindle and wheel bearing, and indexes into a special grease cap that actually spins the cable when it's locked into this cap. So, for obvious reasons a cotter pin won't work here.

Natcherly the shop manuals don't have a good clear picture of this thing anywhere. Good news is it's used from around 1959 thru 1970, when all Oldsmobiles started driving the speedometer off the transmission. If you're lucky enough to find one in the junkyard...
