new-to-me Olds
Ran it for a minute on the trailer, goes into gear
Engine runs really well, but it does sound like a lifter is tapping.
Hello all, my name’s Charlie and I live in Apache Jct, Phoenix Az area. I bought a 1965 Olds 442 convertible from the original owners grandson for $500. (in 1980) I dumped it off in an Autotrader ad in 1986, I never did “love” the car, didn’t like the convertible part, or the look of the tail lights.
Fast forward to this summer, August ‘23. I picked up a 1964 Jetstar 1, much prettier car than a ‘65 442 in my opinion, AND it’s not a convertible. It runs and moves but needs quite a few things. I’m looking forward to driving it😊
Thanks for reading my intro, Charlie

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Yes it is an auto-trans car, the console is complete. I’m embarrassed to say but in my teenage enthusiasm I ruined a few things on that 442 years ago, makes me cringe. This car seems to be 99.9% complete. I’ll do my best not to teenager-ize it😊

Welcome to classicoldsmobile. com Charlie.
I absolutely love the solid cars from the dry southwest. So easy to restore.
I have a '63 Dynamic 88 hardtop from New Mexico that is undergoing a complete restoration.

Less options to keep operational on a Jetstar 1 (oops, you titled your thread and handle incorrectly!) than a Starfire, but looks like you've got ac. Will need to get that operational right after getting the car roadworthy in that fine AZ heat.

Fantastic find! You came to the right forum for advice.
As the former owner of a 1964 Dynamic 88, there are some unique parts for these vehicles. However, most everything mechanical can be found or rebuild. Keep at it and use this forum to solve roadblocks you come up to!

The big thing to remember here is that a Jetstar I is NOT a Jetstar 88.
J-I is a Dynamic 88 with a Starfire roofline and drivetrain. All mechanical components are the same as a Dynamic 88. When some parts monkey tries to sell or order you parts for a Jetstar 88, and they WILL, you're guaranteed to get the wrong parts.

To drain oil you need one of these tools to remove the drain plug, or you can use a 1/2" drive ratchet.

OLD self 64Jetfire1, NEW self 64-Jetstar-1
I’m sorry about having an old guy minute and calling the car a Jetfire, I feel like such a rookie😂
• I appreciate all of your well wishes, compliments, and suggestions. CJ the build threads are crazy detailed😳 I had found the engine thread when I first got the car, great stuff.
•The black convertible with steelies made me drool.
•I’ll keep Jetstar 1 and 88 in mind.
•I was going to replace the stuck lifter, I was afraid I’d mess up the cam, what do you think? MMOil would be way easier.
Again, I’ll start posting and asking for advice, questions on my other intro thread.

Try the oil change and Marvel Mystery Oil first.
Time and Marvel Mystery oil may very well take care of your stuck lifter.
If it doesn't, replacing one lifter with a new lifter will probably be OK.
Use an oil with proper zinc content. Popular suggestions are Valvoline VR-1 (conventional) or Mobil 1 European formula ( synthetic).

Part number for the oil pan drain plug socket/tool = Bonney A-650.
OLDSMOBILE RADIATOR DRAIN PLUG SOCKET
You may find other sites selling the socket, as well.
