I can find paint and top codes in my chassis service manual but where the heck are the trim code specs in the manual?

TY.

They're not. Post them and we'll decode them for you.

Hi...I am working on a 1968 442. The cowl tag has a Trim Code of "944". Can you please tell me what color that is? It looks to be a gold/green color. Am I better off from a collectability standpoint to leave as much as the interior as original? Door panels, headliner, rear seat all appear okay...both seats need to be re-done. I need arm rest pads and a full plastic base for the drivers side. Thanks for your help! Paul

TY.
Kurt already answered the specifics of your question, but for future reference, the trim/pnt/suggested color combos etc are listed in the front section of the 1971 Cutlass Assembly Manual.

Paul, IMO the car is more collectible if it matches the day it was born as much as possible. Then again, 68 442's are collectible as heck as that was the first year they became their own model. As far as leaving the panels and headliner? That's really your call. If they can clean up nicely and don't look ratty? Keep them, OEM parts are usually a better fit than aftermarket.

Does your 442 have the interior chrome reveal around the rear quarter glass?

If you post your VIN or cowl tag it can be decoded further if you wish.

My VIN is: 3 44 87 8Z 107154

My Cowl Tag is: 12C 008268 860329
ST 68-34887 BFOO844
TR 944 B80 GG
A couple questions if I may:
My 1968 442 has a coolant recovery container on the left side of the radiator - is that correct? I don't think it is.
Any idea who sells the 3-piece plastic valance that goes under the front bumper?
Any idea where I can get a remote driver-side mirror?

Thanks for all your help!
Paul.

Hi Paul,

re: VIN
3 - Oldsmobile Division
44 - 442 model
87 - Holiday coupe
8 - model year (1968)
Z - Production - Freemont CA
107154 - production sequence at Freemont. This looks like an earlier production car for the 68 model year. Sequences started at 100001 each year in the Cutlass/442 lineups.

re: Cowl tag
12C - production date code (assigned at Fisher) 3rd week of December 1967
ST 68 - 1968 model year
34887??? Should be 34487 - 2 door holiday coupe body
BF - Fisher Body Works Production plant Freemont
00844 - Body number assigned by Fisher - not related to VIN
TR944 - Willow gold interior with bucket seats
B80 - Chrome roof drip moldings
PNT GG - Paint code: Willow gold upper and lower body

1968 cars did not have a coolant recovery tank.
Drivers side mirror - are you looking for just the glass part or the whole mirror?
Valance - not sure what you're describing here? Do you have a pic of the ones that need replacing?

Hi Allen and Happy New Year! Thanks for the information...I did transpose the numbers for the model...it is 34487.

Can you please tell me if Willow Gold is an uncommon color?

Regarding the mirror, it's the base I need (the prior owner drilled two screw holes through the mounting base).

The valance is a 3-piece plastic piece that attached way far under where the front bumper ends. It's almost like a long mud flap. I'll send you a picture.

I'm also looking for the antenna base - the part that attached inside the passenger side fender where the antenna cable feeds in.

Thanks for all your help,
Paul.

You're welcome Paul.
There is no way to reference how many Olds A body cars were produced with specific color combinations or options as those records are long gone or simply weren't kept.

Is Willow God an uncommon color? No. Although I haven't seen as many in WG as I've seen in white, red, black or silver, WG was a really nice color and I wouldn't have any hesitation about buying that color. It was also one of the feature colors on the 68 Olds promo pictures for the 68 CS Holiday Sedan

In direct light it looks much better though IMO
