Installing new seat covers

Hi all,
I just bought a 1971 Cutlass Supreme Convertible and the new seat covers from OPGI were included. My Question is how much should I pay to have the new seat covers installed? I plan to remove the seats from the car.

I recovered the bucket seats in my car and it was really simple. It took maybe 1/2 day for each seat. I guess what I am saying is save money by doing it yourself and learn something new.

I believe Ben (user name: RAMBOW) can help you out. He does seat restoration or will sell you what you need to do it yourself. That is my plan. His website is http://www.seat-guy.com/

I can add that I also re covered my own with no prior experience. It is way easier than you might think. Put a plastic trash bag over the seat back and slide the cover down. All you really need is a decent hog ring pliers and hog rings. Ben was the resource that made me decide to try it myself. Glad I did, saved about 500.00 the upholstery place wanted....

I'll also ad that its really easy. Your probably looking at $300 + foam to install them if you go that route.

I used that method as well (on the seat bottom, too); it makes the seat cover slide over the foam very easily.

The bottoms arent that bad just fold them inside out and then roll the sides back down over the base cushion.

Do you leave the plastic bag there or some how pull it out after the cover is on. Hope that makes sense, I guess I am just curious if the plastic would effect anything, hold in moisture, etc.

The real thin plastic bags for clothes, you can get at a Dry cleaners work great. As Boese1978 said get a good pair of hog ring pliers, mine are a little angled at the tip. Not a bad job at all, just take your time to see how it comes apart, then reverse that with the new and you will be happy you did.

The magazine article I read at the time (before the Internet) said to pull the plastic out, but I found it wouldn't budge, so I left it in. I was living on the Gulf Coast at the time and we had sudden thunderstorms that often caught me with the top down. Leaving the plastic in gave me a water barrier so the seat foam didn't get soaked and stay wet for weeks. I hated when my butt got wet every time I sat in the car, so leaving the plastic in was a good thing.
