TECH : make your own glovebox

My glovebox was the original and was suffering, it was just holding in there.

So I looked around. They're listed on eBay but basically came to over $100 by the time I would have it. Seemed a bit pricey for cardboard. So I decided to make my own

So I started with some sheet steel I had and took measurements. then transposed these on to the sheet steel and cut the pieces out. the kick down I bent in a 18" brake I have. and folded up the edges too.

The top I wanted removable as I wanted to mount my stereo there,

trail fitting everything

I wanted it white on the inside so it wasn't dark

of course , some holes drilled and screws and stereo fitted and its good to go. won't break over time either.

And that's pretty much it. Job done.

I agree, that is ridiculous for something that sells for $16 in the states.

An Allen head screw, I forget what you call them in the US. I think the term must be UK based, certainly if you walk into a bolt shop and ask for a grub screw they know what you're talking about.

Awesome job.

I need a new glovebox, as mine is a bit trashed from the heater core replacement. And like you, this would allow me to update my stereo.

that will hold up forever. Those stock glove boxes are low quality high price.

One thing I had done before it cut my old original stereo out. the face plate and all the dials are there but show only, hiding the stereo in the glovebox is nothing new but a lot I have seen just use a flat plate and the stereo is the only thing in there. I still wanted to have some room to store stuff in there.
