Opinions- filter in glass bowl f/pump

Why is it that most of the cars i see still running a glass bowl mechanical fuel pump have a crappy looking aftermarket plastic filter in between the pump and the carb? Were they notoriously crappy at filtering, or is that just old school mechanics trying to make it better?

My 64/98 has a crappy filter in-line, a hard bend in the rubber line that obviously is restricting flow and it looks horrible.

It's been on my list of things to do, which I never seem to get traction on.

It's just added insurance on a old car. Mine is attached below the fuel pump and before the glass filter and mostly out of sight...... Tedd

Get rid of that plastic filter, they are dangerous. The sediment bowl filter works great but you have to make sure its clean and that the gasket seals properly.
