Any Ford Techs here?
Yesterday, I had a really strange problem with the brakes on my 1999 F150 Lariat 4WD.
As I was driving away from a stop, I applied the brakes. The passenger front tire locked up!
I had to back up and go forward for it to release.
It stopped for the next 20 miles or so, and did it again. The brake pedal goes almost to the floor now.
BUT - no loss of fluid from the master.
Today, I pumped the brake pedal, and can hear a "hiss" from the passenger side of the engine compartment.
I think it is a bad caliper.....Any ideas????
Thanks

Perhaps the brake hoses are bad. If they deteriorate enough then the rubber lining on the inside of the brake hose will fray and block the fluid from returning to the MC. This will cause the brakes to stick. However, this is a problem I wouldn't expect on a 99 Ford truck.

Sounds like a pad has come loose, among other possabilities. The pad will float until you use the brakes, then jam itself, and be released when you back up. I had this happen on a Ford truck. There could also be a stone lodged in there-been 4 wheelin? Or it could be the line,as stated above.I have had a bit of inner line rip, causing a flap that acted like a one-way valve.Another line ruptured the inner, and made a balloon between layers. But none of these exactly fit your description.Except maybe the stone. ---bil
