Question Gas gage can not sit still

I have a 1971 Olds Cutlass Convertible with a gas gage that can not sit still. The needle on the gage will move back and forth about 10 degrees. I am thinking grounding issue and cleaned up the ground contacts near the tank with no luck.

Would appreciate any suggestions on how to settle the gage down.

maybe your float is shot. Drop the tank and have the sending unit rebuilt. It comes right out with a wooden dowel and a rubber mallet.

My car has a similar problem. Then again, with gas prices so high it doesn't really matter how much fuel is in my tank since the car sits all of the time.

Actually, I get to drive the Olds today so I can go buy an engine hoist. Hopefully I will be swapping in the 455 and TH 400 by the end of the summer.
