Your 1964 J88 uses a BOP 8.2" rear axle. While the housing is unique to the 1964 J88, the center section and gears interchange with those used on the Cutlass and other A-body cars with the 8.2" axle.

Pretty much everyone who sells rear axle parts. JD Race, Ratech, Yukon, Drivetrain Shop, Randy's, Gevo's, etc, etc.

Im in Canada so pricing on the parts from U.S was just too much after i found a posi unit on amazon.ca.
I brought the posi unit to a shop, and hes having a hard time identifying stuff. Hes not sure i have the right unit. I purchased the ydggm8.2bop-3-28-1.

This is a picture from last year when i changed the gasket out. So the unit I have is a 8.2 BOP for sure?
Is there numbers stamped on the housing anywhere.

Yes, that is a BOP 8.2. It could be a Pontiac or Buick sourced axle.

Ok so sounds like i have the right posi unit? Its a 28 spline. When i look on yukon website all the gears are 27 spline in the descriptions and the posi is 28.

27 splines is the spline count on the pinion. This is unrelated to the 28 splines on the axle shaft.

BOP wrong posi unit

BOP 8.2
Buick 1964-1967
2 series is 2.56-2.78
3 series is 2.93 3.08 3.23 ratios
4 series is 3.36 3.55 3.90 4.33 etc.
Sooo your bop Yukon posi is for 3.36 - 4.33 and beyond gears. It will not work correctly with your 3.08 ratio
You need the 114 or 099 Auburn unit.

parts

Sometimes it better to pay a little more to get the correct stuff the first time... ?? Maybe?

For a CHEVY rear it is 3.08 -4.56 ratios. ydggm8.2-3-28-1
ydggm8.2bop-3-28-1 is for 3.36 - 4.33 and beyond.
