Vintage Craftsman Top Tool Box
Being a lover of vintage stuff my father in-law gifted me this box. It was his daddy's, who was a Sears Auto Mechanic back in the day. He thinks it is late 60's. I think it is wicked cool.
it's missing it's lock and it sits on my late model Craftsman roll away box which is missing the Craftsman emblem. WOOT!!!!

The lock should be readily available, probably from Sears even

Sweet,
My wife, the grand daughter said her granddad left Warren, PA in 1968. She was born in 1971 and grand pa started work for Sears in 1971-72 so the ? is...did grandpa have the box in Warren or bought it when he get to Texas. Please stand by.
Okay I don't see a stamp on the inside of the top however...The pics I have seen of 1970's boxes show the top lid "ribbed" and this box has a flat sheet of steel top however, the handles are recessed and appear to be ribbed aluminum. There is a hand tray that fits the top compartment post and 2 trays that are 3" wide on each side (that have carpet glued in them) the tray was red but painted black. You guys want me pics. I don't intend to sell it but knowing the story is greatness.

Cool
I had bought a Craftsman top box (albeit smaller that this one) in '78, but it really didn't look anything like that. The whole thing was painted red, although it did have the recessed side aluminum handles. I'd say yours would be from the early 60s, if I had to guess.... Mine also had the flat steel top; no ribs. Unfortunately, it was washed away in miserable Katrina.
Very nice piece, Rob.
You'd really have to TRY to wear that thing out.

I've got a top, middle, and bottom box setup a lot like that one, but a little bit earlier (early '60s, has the earlier Sears logo on it), with all locks and keys, that I got when my grandfather died.
I use it all the time. I just wish he hadn't let an old can of brake fluid leak all over one of the drawers - that old stuff was a lot nastier than what we use now.

I have a Craftsman that is about half that size, but has a crinkle paint finish like my Kennedy tool box, I got it from my mother...that's right, she worked for Kaydon Bearing, retired as a final inspector.

I'm 24 lol. Lot of the guys who I worked with where there 20 25 years plus we called them the old timers. We where the youngest guys running the oldest machines in the shop. I since left but it was one hell of an experience.

It is good when younger people can work ,learn and have a good time working with us "Old Timers". I now can enjoy myself because I just retired from a power plant that produces electricity after a 34 year run.

That must have been a cool job. All I can think about when I think power plant is homer simpson from the simpsons lol. I just noticed my spelling error too I meant to say a lot of the guys where there 20 to 25 plus years lol.
