71 Cutlass Frame Diagram

Hey guys, I dont know if there is such thing... but I need a diagram with all the dimensions of my frame... While inspecting the underside of my car, I noticed that the frame had some major cracks, and a pathetic attempt at a weld job, right infront of the crossmember. It looks as if someone tried a 'Dukes of Hazzard' jump with my girl

Ive got a mechanic that can help me out with the job, he just requested that I find the diagram with proper dimensions for it. If anyone knows where I can get one it would be greatly appreciated

What a bummer, dang Hollywood rednecks.
Didn't the red color, stars and bars on the roof, the big 01 painted on the welded shut doors and the rollbar tip you off when you bought it?
It could be a lot worse, at least it ain't a Dogdge.

The chassis service manual has this if it helps.

It also says that after the frame menbers are riveted or bolted securely all welded joints or any cuts that were made should be welded.

It's sort of obvious but they have to say it or you know what would happen.

I'm just glad they didn't choose a Cutlass for the General Lee. When making the series.
That would suck.

Thanks for that diagram Bluevista, but im looking for something much more detailed. I dont even know if it exists, but I need dimensions for pretty well everything haha :P

Funny story I build frames for a living. I have to repair robot welds. So I hope he can weld better then a robot.

I get what your saying he lays down a nice smooth weld.

Mr. Roboto can't weld?

I would get another frame too, just R & R if you can turn a wrench and have tools, jacking devices, sawhorses, lumber, a cherry picker and lots of friends.

Body/ frame shops had detailed frame dimension charts with the numbers for any car so they had them.
This evilbay dude has them for 5 bucks.

Smart move to use a Cadillac one in his listing pic, I would have ripped it off if it was the Cultass diagram.

Well I went to the two body shops we have in town, neither of them have the diagram I need. One of the guys actually started to give me crap for having a friend weld it without having a frame machine to check everything. Little does he know that the frame is straight, because I did the cross-measurements, they are fine. I put it on a flat floor, jacked the front up to be even with the back, and measured both sides from the floor to the frame. Thats also straight lol. so the only issue is those two cracks before the crossmember. So I let him ramble and grumble about me not doing it right, thinking maybe he would say something I dont know yet. The only thing he did say that I liked was about a guy just outside of town that used worked at the GM dealer in town for like 40 years, that has a massive warehouse dedicated to GM behind his house. Im going to go visit that guy to determine if hes a hoarder and wont part with anything, or maybe he will cut me some sweet deals

Just a little update in case anyone is following lol.

Jim:
I snagged this off the web a few years ago. I used these dimensions to check my frame before powder coating.

I have a very detailed frame diagram with all possible measurements for a '70 Buick GS from a frame shop.

If anyone can confirm that the Cutlass frame is the same, I'll post it when I get home from work.

Frame Swapping Guide

This pdf is another document I pulled off the web a few years ago. It might be helpful to you, but I haven't verified any of the info presented.

Rodney, thx. I got that one somewhere up here on CO and roughly caculated it was like 14 ft or so. Just needed to know what vehicle needed to haul it from a POS powder coater who held it for 10.5 months and did nothing with it.

Fourteen feet sounds about right. Mine was just a tad longer than the 12ft U-Haul trailer I rented to bring my frame home.
