A couple of comments:

1. You say the odometer has 15,000. Is that the mileage, or is it 115,000? If the latter, state that. If you don't know, state that. As it stands now, you are implying the car has 15,000 miles.

2. You say this about the top:

"It has a slight twelve inch tear only on outer skin, on left side upper, see pictures."

What pictures? You have exactly three photos overall, none from very close-up, and only one picture with the top up. You can't see this tear or anything in that one photo.

I suggest putting about 2 dozen more photos up. It's the age of digital photography. If you can take 3 photos, you can take 30 or 300. If you can upload 3 photos, you can upload 10 or 20 or however many craigslist allows. Take one from every angle. Lift the hood and take some of the engine. Ditto for the trunk. Take several of the interior, and get underneath.

You have a nice car, but your three measly photos don't do it justice and suggest you're trying to hide something.

Finally, what's the deal with this photo:

We see more of the empty parking space next to the car than we can see of the car itself!

Strong valuation for a 1971 CS vert in basically driver condition and needing some repairs. FYI the 1971 base engine was a 350 4bbl, so likely a previous owner has swapped something out on this car, as your ad says it's a 350 2bbl. If it's a prime candidate for restoration, that likely means it's in category 3 or 4 of the price guides.

I'd be interested in knowing what makes this car
'Rare Classic, Very Rare'
The Oldsmobile production statistics don't really back up your claim.

CL allows up to 24, the only reason I know this is I just sold my car last week and posted about 15 pics.

It was probably optioned down. My came that way along with a bench seat. So I doubt anything was changed. You could option down I guess.

The '71 Dealer Specs book supports this.

Note at the upper left under "Standard Equipment" the engine listed, as Allan says, is a 350 4-bbl. Then look low in the second column for option L65. A 350 2-bbl was offered for a $33.70 reduction in price.

Back in the day, when people heard it came with a 4 bbl carburetor they assumed it would use a ton of gas and would order a 2 bbl., not realizing if you kept out of the back barrels you would actually get better mileage with the 4bbl., due to the smaller front barrels of the quadrajet. They would also get a small credit on the purchase cost. However, what they didn't realize they made for a less desirable car in terms of power and driveability. I've had those two barrel carbs and they never worked as well as the quadrajet.

Larry & Dan,
Good eye guys. This is just like the 72 production then. I'd be curious to know what other options this car has, given the likelihood of a downgraded engine on its original build. It's still my opinion though that 'downgrading' the base engine to the L65 hurts the car in resale terms. The 2 bbl is still a good engine, but I've found the 4bbl's to be more powerful and fuel efficient.

Larry? You have the A65 seat? That was the 'optional' seat that was available at N/C. Again, it's JMO, but I think the CS and Cutlass S should all have been mandatory A51 Strato bucket cars. They were styled for sportiness and then were given plain jane seat options? What was Olds thinking?

EDIT: Brian - you posted while I was typing. Appears you and I have the same opinion on the engine.

Allan

It seems to have a strange set of options Downgraded seats and engine.
Then Clock, Lighting package, Disc Brakes and A/C.

It came with SSI on it but don't know if they were added later, same with the 4 spoke rally steering wheel.

Why do you live there?

A few stations here are selling unleaded regular for $3.15/gallon.

IMO, neither of you have any real gas issues compared to Canada. Where I live is absolutely the lowest gas prices in all Canada and it's 4.35/US Gallon on a good day. The rest of Canada struggles with prices ranging from 4.72 to 5.67 / US gallon. Come for a visit and bring lots of gas $$$. Beautiful country to visit and live in - at a cost.

Naw. You got it worse out there than I do here Craig. Just letting the good folks complaining about their high prices that they're not alone. I see you guys are sitting at 5.06/US gallon at the low end right now, and your premium is a whopping 5.67/US gallon. Do you sometimes head across to NY for gas? At 4.00/US gallon it might be a cost savings but don't know about the time factor.

I'll chime in on the 350 2V issue. My '71 Cutlass Supreme convertible is also a 350 2V car. I wish it was a Q-jet. As far as the value, I was offered $12K for mine last year and mines a driver with wear, so he may not be that far off on his asking price. Of course, I live in the rust belt where old convertibles are few and far between.
