Fixing a disc brake spindle
Anyone ever done this? The garage I go to mentioned having a machine shop build up the metal that is chewed up. I do not want a repro spindle.

The welding and remachine option works fine if done properly. The bearing surfaces don't see any relative motion with the bearing inner race under normal use anyway, so you should be fine.

I've seen it done on electric motor and pump shafts to salvage them. Think the technique is called "spray welding". Get it built up enough to work, then machine it down to specs.
My tightwad dad had that done on a jet well pump when I was in grade school. It would have been simpler and about as cheap to have replaced the pump.
However I can understand wanting to save your original spindle. A refurbished GM forged part is still better than a new Chinesium cast part.
