I only saw a Miller 135 mentioned once in this thread, is it a good welder for welding floorpans? There is a Miller T135 posted on the bulletin board where I work for $300.

Let us know what that is. also you can also run pvc pipe for a short distance then drill through to the garage and right into the welding plug. Maybe a picture of the panel and the side of the house would help.
Let me know and we can help.

The circuit breakers in the US are rated at 75 degrees allowing us to use the second column rating of 50 amps (as long as the breaker is new and not and old used breaker) Check the tag on the breaker

Tom - is your roomate's concern that a gas cylinder may explode? But doesn't MIG welding use inert gases?
Perhaps his concern is the other environmental or fire hazards that are inherent to welding?
For a good overview (I know it is not correct to cite wiki) he should see:

Just found out that Canada's code is lining up with the US to make things simple.
I am going to check our new code to see if that is the same here.

MIG gas it not explosive (or even flamable) it just there as a sheild. There is no reason to worry about MIG welding fire hazzard except while you are accually welding. The sparks can start a fire and what you are welding on can catch fire too if the is old paint, bondo, interior trim ect you are welding next to.

eastwood???

anybody have any experience with the eastwood 135? it has the same features as the millermatic 140, namely the infinite variable amperage as opposed to the 4 settings of the lincoln and hobart, they also now offer a 3 year warranty, and wit the coupon it is advertised at 299 or there abouts, I have been looking and looking the lincoln 140C has the infinite settings, the miller matic has it, but if you go to lowes etc the lincolns they sell has only the 4 settings I know I should probably go with the miller or lincoln but man it is literally half price and seems to be backed up with a great warranty...

You bet! I got the model at a hobby shop in Vermont, was around 12 dollars.

The welder is great, it has flux core capabilities as well as MIG, I recently welded in a brand new cowl (19 gauge) and it worked great! Honestly? If you wait the little but and get it on sale, it's a great lifetime buy, heck I could weld anything I want now!

I got a hood from Dave out in embrun a couple weeks back, it took a but of work but it really looks great so far.
