I was wondering if anyone had some input on the tire size best to put on a 17x7" rim for a 1965 f85. I know there are alot of people who have had issues with rubbing or scraping the wheel wells due to having too tall of a tire.

The specific rim I'd like to use is this one:

There is also a 15x7" available if the 17" is just not doable, but I would like to have the 17" with a lower profile tire, similar to the attached image

I have 17x8 with 0 offset 205/50/17 in front and 17x9.5. +6 offset still playing with tires as I get used ones for free at times I know it's not wide enough but has 235/45/17 rear

My front rub when I am turning hard one way if I never max out its fine

 

This may not be of much help but Im almost certain with a std. ride height, I can get a 255/60R x15 drag radial on the rear and 215/70R x15 on the front with no rub issues. These are on GM big car 15x7 steelies. However there is complete Hotchkis suspension on the car with the B-Body spindle upgrade that takes under steer-lean out when cornering hard on these A-body cars. Just some thoughts.....

 

I don't know what will fit in that body style, but a good size for that rim would be 235/55/17. About the same overall height as a 215/70/15, for reference.

If you wanted to go with a slightly lower profile, I'd suggest 245/50/17, but that should be used on an 8" wide rim.

Also, with lower profile tires most people like to lower the car a touch as well. Even if the overall diameter of a low profile set of 17" wheels & tires is the same as a set of 15"s, the wheel gap (between top of the tire and and fender or quarter panel) just looks bigger and less aesthetically pleasing. But that is all personal preference.
