14x7 (not 6) Snap-On center SSII
I was under the impression that all the Snap-On centers SSII wheels were either 14x6 or 15x7. Today, I saw this single wheel in a swap meet that is 14x7 but with Snap-On center for $10. What years Cutlass did these come on?

All the 14" snap-in SSII/III wheels I've ever seen have been 7" wide. The only 14x6 SSII wheels I've ever seen are the 68-69 bolt-in ones.

Joe, it must be the different bone yards we've wandered through as I've seen both 14X6 and 14X7. I don't know if they're still called SSIII's but the later ones with squared off bezel edges seem to all be 14X6. Attached are photos of a 14X6 with the rounded edge style bezels. Then below that is a photo of what I'm calling the squared off corner bezels. Texas442, I don't know the dates each was used. John

I'm sure this will be disputed, but, several years ago I bought
a '69 Cutlass "S" parts car that had 14x5" SSII's (bolt-on centers).
I may still have one of the wheels. I'll check just for the heck of it.

Thanks for that photo. What I find even more interesting is that the wider wheel appears to have a non-zero offset - it appears that the wheel center is at the same distance from the outboard rim on both wheels. Can you verify that this isn't just an optical illusion?

I'll be the first to admit that I don't spend a lot of time looking at 14" wheels anymore. I will say that all the 14" snap-in wheels that I have are 7". I was not aware that Olds even made 6" versions of the snap-in, so this is a learning experience for me. I will say that I was always mystified that the aluminum 1979-1980 wheels were 14x6, but apparently so were the steel ones at the time.

I am a wheel guy and I have and have had dozens if not hundreds of the 14x6 late G-body wheels, they are absolutely everywhere I look. I have only had or seen a couple of the 14x7 versions so, at least around here, they are rare.

If the 3 10 9 in the pic in the first post is a date then would be March 10, 1979. 69 would be too early and 89 too late.

The 14x7 SSIII was available in 78 to 80 IIRC, and in 81 (Thru 88) the principle wheel for the G-Body was 14x6 (both painted & chrome) and 15x7 (chrome) for 442 & Hurst... I have several of the 14x7 and dozens of the 14x6 (painted & CHROME).... I also had a few 73's & 74's with 14x7's but I can't remember for certain if they were bolt on or push on caps, I'll have to check some old photos or check my parts system to be sure....

Factory wheels were bolt-on centers through the 1974 model year. The snap-in centers were introduced with the 1975 model year.
