Rally wheels for 1968 442?

Rally wheels for 1968 442?

What would be the correct factory rally wheels for a 1968 442? I am working on a restoration project and would like it to be period correct. My car came with the dog dish hub caps. I want to install the rally gauge pack and imagine that option would have included rally wheels also. Just a guess.

Also, does anybody know what tires would have come from the factory? Thanks guys.

14 X 6 argent grey rally wheels with F70-14 Firestone, red line, wide oval tires- the rally pac was a separate option...

Thanks for the info. Does anybody have a set of these wheels they don't need? I am in San Diego.
Does Firestone still make the correct tires?

By rally wheels do you mean SS2's? I believe 14"x6" SS1's were also an option.

I was wondering what the different options were. I see a lot of talk about SSI, II and II wheels and want looks good on the car, but not necissarily a timeline of what wheels are appropriate when. Were the SSII wheels available as a factory or dealer option in 1968?

apparently ss1 were not avalible in 68 only ss2 but every one hated them so the dealer put ss1 on (seems like they did it alot becuase there are so many old pics of these cars w/ss1) as for the color i had some orig wheels and when i took off the tire it kind of looked like a brownish grey but i dont know how shiney it should be i have seen it done flat and semi gloss (i like flat) also there should be no chrome on the 5 holes (painted silver) and one year only brushed trim rings (look like ralley 1 pontiac but have larger hole for valve) this has been discused before here so hopefully someone else will chime in because i would like to know the exact finish myself

Why be like all the others? Instead of Super Stocks, why not go aftermarket with some Raders?

The reason you see a lot of SSI wheels (option PO5 for the '66, '67 and '69 models) on '68 A-body cars is that there was a production problem with the SSII wheel (option PO5 for the '68 models and option code N66 for the '69 models) early on. As I understand, the production problem finally got ironed out in late March 1968 and getting SSIIs was no longer a problem. If you ordered the PO5 option earlier in the '68 production year (which was the SSII wheel that year) and none were available, it appears that the assembly plants just substituted the SSI wheel. Or, as explained earlier, the dealer could have installed SSI wheels. With the 1969 production year, both the SSI and SSII were available, options PO5 and N66, respectively. Up to this point, and through most of the '69 production year, the SSI couldn't be used with disc brakes. However, in about the last 4 months of production for the '69 model year, 14X6 SSI wheels were made available for A-body cars with disc brakes.
