What tires on factory ss1 14 x 6”

What is the biggest tire you can safely use on 1966 ss1 14 x 6” wheels? 215 or 225?

My 72 with SSII 14x6 sits on Cooper Cobras 225/70 14 and I think I put the same on my 442 SSI.

Not many choices in 14" wheel tire availability anymore. I think the largest is 27-8.5's, a 225-70-14 is what was on my car in the rear when I got it on 14x6 wheels.

I've run 245-60-14s BFGs on 14x6 SSIs for decades. Kinda rolly-polly looking and no overly agressive driving. But the tread looks more agressive from the front / back. Minor rubbing the sway bar on full lock turns + bump.

Yeah, I have also ran 245/60R14 on 14×6 rims. They rubbed up front on my 88 Cutlass. I currently have 205/70R14 BFG TA's up front and I decided to go 225/70R14 Cooper Cobra in the back. Too bad they discontinued the 235/70R14 tires or I would do 225 in the front 235 in the back.

I ran 245/60-14 T/As on 14x6 SS II wheels waaaay back in my young and stupid days. I wouldn't do it today because 1) the wheels need to be wider, and 2) those 245/60s are a Honda-sized 25.5" OD. 225/70-14s will be fine. Olds used F70x14 and 7.75x14 tires on these wheels, both of which are about the same size as 225/70-14s.

Side note: Coker now has 235/70-14s for stupid money.

Check to see if the '68 H/O came with G-70-14's. I don't recall what size tires were on the '68 W-45 H/O. If you are going to spend stupid money get a tire closer to what you need. .
