Bumper jack questions...
Hello Oldsmobile fanatics! I'm in search of a bumper jack (preferably year correct...not a repop) for my 72 Cutlass Supreme. My questions are: .First, are bumper jacks date coded? Second, if I can't find a 72 date code, did the 71s come with the "hook"? And third, what other "hardware" (if any) would I need to secure the jack in the trunk? I have the original Olds rally rims that I would be using one of for my spare.
Thanks,
Dave

Jacks had date codes on them - usually stamped into a rivet head or the body of the piece that moves up and down the post. I've attached a picture of the date code on the jack for my Lansing '68 4-4-2 (the grey-colored one), which says "8 D" on the rivet head and means 1968 (8), fourth month (or April) of that year (D). I've also attached a picture of the date code on the jack for my Fremont '69 '4-4-2 (the black one), which is stamped "9 D" on the body of the piece that moves up and down the post, and means 1969 (9), fourth month (or April) of that year (D).
For '68 and '69, there were 4 different manufacturers of jacks for A-body cars and the jacks shown below represent 2 of those 4 different manufacturers. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same for '70-'72. The cradle markings are different between the '68 and '69 jacks but those cradles are otherwise exactly the same. I suspect the same may be true for '70-'72.
I highly recommend obtaining a '72 Product Information Manual, more commonly referred to by many as the assembly manual. It should tell you exactly what hardware you need in your trunk for the jack and jack handle. It will also say how many manufacturers there were for A-body jacks in model year '72.
