The other day I noticed one of my lug nuts missing on the front passenger side. My 72 has SSIII (burnt orange) wheels and I have never had a problem. I have no experience with the drum brakes and am looking for advice on which lug post to use, how to install the new one, and where I can find and SSIII lug nut with the orange cap.
The SSIII wheels used chrome lug nuts, available from almost any parts retailer... If your lug nuts are orange, they have been painted and not original...
If the wheel stud fell out somehow, there's a good chance that the hole in the hub is now oversize. You may need to use a wheel stud with a larger than stock knurl to get it to stay put.
Ok, wait a minute. WD 40 from what? You said the lug nut was missing, but using WD40 suggests to me that a nut was stuck and needed help to come off. Is that what happened? How did the stud disappear from there? They are usually a beach to get out, and your drum doesn't look like it's falling apart.
The lug nuts are typically chrome, aftermarket are solid pieces machined to the proper thread. The OEM lug nuts were capped. None of them came color coded to the car. That had to have been done by a previous owner.
FYI, you can get these from your local auto parts store as well.
Yup, got mine from NAPA when I did my 72. About a buck a stud, tax in. I'd take the drum off the car and take it with me to verify if the hole had maxxed out. AND, take a nut with you to make sure they get the right thread. I don't trust the counter monkeys all that much.

Ken - I asked my teenage son to hit the lug nuts with WD 40 while i was grabbing a tool; he hit the empty hole in addition to the actual lug nuts.
All: Thanks for the tips.....this project is complete (without much trouble). I just had to try several larger sizes for the knurl, but eventually got one that I pulled throughe and seated tightly. Back on the road...
