wheels and tires

ive been looking for a good deal on craigslist like always. ive found a few decent deals but nothing that really made me leave the house. I have a few questions about offset and size. I don't know much about wheels so sorry if I sound like an idiot. so obviously 5x4.75 bolt pattern are pretty hard to find. ive read 5x4.72 will fit but can get dangerous what exactly does that mean. will they eventually break and/or does it put not normal stress on the rims. also another question I have a 69 cutlass. what is the best offset for wheels. i would like to find a wider back wheel and tire but of course cant really find a pair. does anyone know a decent width tire for front and back that doesn't look funny. thanks for the help its always appreciated

That is totally subjective - what one person loves another will say "looks funny" to them.

I am a fan of 245-60 for 14" wheels and either 245-60 or 255-60 for 15" wheels. I prefer the width for traction and shorter sidewall for handling. Others prefer a taller 70 series tire so that there is less of a gap between the tire and fender lip, but in my opinion that makes it "look funny" when viewed from behind as the tires are way too skinny for the very wide fender wells.

See what I mean about opinions?

Huh???

5 x 4.75 is the bolt pattern used on just about every Chevy every built. Wheels with this bolt pattern grow on trees.

maybe its just my area but every single wheel on craigslist is 5x120mm. i figured it would be easy to find wheels with the right pattern but it hasnt been.

5 x 120mm is a typical pattern on FWD cars, so those wheels will have the wrong offset anyway.

It would help if you say what your area is. Somebody on here might have something for you. Sounds like you don't want stock so when you are searching CList search for terms "Cragar", "Centerline" and "Weld". They mostly made RWD rims.

Kinds partial to American Classics myself when it comes to aftermarket. Timeless pattern and I like the beaded spokes. Gives the wheel good depth. The guys are right. List what you're looking for and where. Amazingly, you might be right around the corner from one of us who could help out.
