Wheel Vintiques SS1 Repros - What do you guys think?

Looking to buy a set of the 70-72 14x7's. Price seems very reasonable at 130.00 each - how well are they constructed and how are they different from OEM?

Hi costpenn, I'm not sure about these reproductions, but these wheels are rather plentiful used, usually around $50/wheel.

I just bought a set of 15x 8's from Summit. (They are Wheel Vintiques wheels but with free shipping made it a better deal.) I have not got them on the car yet and no tires are mounted but I am very happy with the overall finish and they seem to be high quality.

Metal is softer, and the chrome is not that durable.

I would recommend a used set first.

If you want 15" SS1 wheels, have a set of 14" SS1 wheels re-hooped like I did.

Beats chineseum crap.

Ok where do you find the spec on the Rockwell hardness scale that original GM wheels were built with? Wheel Vintiques Wheels are manufactured in the US by Americans. Check out their website @ www.wheelvintiques.com. They even have a nice video that shows the manufacturing process and the tight tolerances the wheels are built to.

Specialty Wheel also makes the same reproduction in the USA but cost and shipping is extra so overall about 15% more than Wheel Vintiques. Any opinions on which is the better quality and why?

I have had mine on for about 4 years now and they still look like new. 15x7 front and 15x8 rear.

I bought my 15X7 SS I's through Summit with tires. They come mounted and balanced. All you have to do is bolt on and fill with air. Mine are starting to have a few very small rust spots coming through. I have not done the best at keeping them waxed though. I would recommend.

I'd like to buy a set at $50/wheel without needing major repairs. So far the $50 wheels I've seen are pretty much bent.
