Tire - Bial Ply to Radial

Hi,

According to the options list for my 1970 442 it came with G-70 Bial Ply tires. It currently has BF Goodrich P215/70R14s on it. However, these radials are not over 11 years old.

I've not found a really good conversion chart on the Net, but based on what I've read I actually could probably put P225/70R14s on it. In fact if I am correct they are closer in diameter to the original G-70s then the P215s.

Can anyone confirm P225s are going to fit well on the car? I am certain I have plenty of room for turns in terms of chassis, and I think (though it is harder to judge) that I have plenty of room under fenders even on a hard turn.

Thanks!

We use 255-60-15 on the rear of our '68s, 225-60-14 on the front. Lots of clearance...but not good for front of '68/9 W30 or 31 or 32s...if you want your speedo accurate change the driven gear in the tranny...

I ran a set of BF Goodrich 225/70/14's on my 71 for a year with SS1's. They worked just fine. I didn't like how they looked on the rear, they are too skinny for my taste. We had a set of 15" SS3 that we put 215/70/15 on the front and 275/60/15 on the back. I have always been a fan of original looking cars but in this case the bigger tires and wheels look far better than the 14's. JMHO
