SS3 Trim Ring Depth/Size

I know now that the 15" x 2 7/8 deep trim rings do not fit my SS3 wheels with snap on cap.
What depth of trim ring should I be looking for 2 1/2" or 2 1/4"?
Thanks.

I just measured mine I would say 2 7/8” is the correct trim ring. Here is s pic of a factory ss3 snap on ctr cap w a factory trim ring

im not a great measurer, but the tape is at the edge of the trim ring the rule is flat across the top of the trim ring. There is a small ~1/8” gap between the trim ring and rim. One could argue the trim ring is closer to 2 11/16” but i think 2 and 7/8s would pass in most circles ( not machinists tho )

maybe post a pic of your set up, i may be interested in some decent driver trim rings if you have them

Thanks for the measurements
Care to take one more?
here is what I have for the inside diameter- 12.25" ID
If yours have a smaller ID then that would make sense why these rings will not fit.

Just FYI, you need to look at the measurement on the underside of the flat rule. Either that or subtract the thickness of the flat rule from the topside measurement.

Thks kenneth

the ruler is ~1/16” thick

that comes in real close to the 2 11/16 i guess i could say it may actually be 21/32 but to be fair im pretty happy w 2 7/8.

i know your background dictates submicron geometries, but i started off w im not good w the measuring!

ill give the ID a go later on and post back

No worries, was just pointing it out as I couldn’t really tell if your flat rule was thick enough to make a difference.

ok after kenneths measurement shaming im back and making a solid effort this time.

Using the same method straightedge across the top and measuring from the bottom lip of the ring to the bottom of the straightedge

70.75mm or 2 25/32 ( thats a 64s scale lol wtf 64s)

ID is 11.5”

i will note your trim rings dont look like original ones. Mine have a 1/4 round depression at the top id that i dont see on yours.

That Inside dimension now makes sense, the slope of these rings are steeper so the inside of the ring wont pass the shape of the wheel rim close to where its welded to the center.
Any ways....thanks very much for the help
these are repops from Inline Tube, the ad on ebay stated fits OLDS but I guess not.
Now I have to return them and loose 20% on the refund for inline to place them back on a shelf.....

Need 3" 15 x 7 trim rings

I'm restoring a set of 1975 15 x 7 SSIII and trying to find trim rings that fit. I ordered an expensive set from a reputable Olds restoration business that were advertised to be 3" deep. I put them on my wheel and found that there was an at least 1/2" gap between the trim ring and the center part of the wheel. This just does not look correct. Measuring them like RetroRanger did they came out to be 2.5" and not 3" (see picture). Someone gave me a cheap set of rings that were definitely marked 2.5" on the box and when laid side by side with the expensive ones, they were equal. Does anyone know where I can get a set of 15 x 7 trim rings that are actually 3" deep?
