SS II wheel color 1968

I just bought a set of 15 x 7 SSII wheels. The eventually need to be sandblasted and painted but I'm unsure of the factory color for '68. It will be going on a silver 1968 convertible Cutlass. Thanks for any recommendations or help.

Hi Mike
The factory color for 1968 would have been Argent Gray or Argent Silver, I've seen it called both. There's several threads that discuss this, but using the search option I'm not able to find the one that has the most pictures. It wouldn't be correct, (but neither are 15X7's in 1968) but I'd be more inclined to paint them body color. I think that would look nicer than wheels an off shade of the body color. My 2 cents worth... John

John, I've heard of the Argent color but didn't connect it with the wheel color. Your suggestion of the body color might be the way to go. At least it would all tie together. Thanks, Mike

I like the argent color. But w a silver car it may look like John suggests...off shade rims. for me silver w silver would be to monochromatic. I like the SS IIIs painted black when the car is a light color. As a bonus the black shows less dirt and brake dust than argent or silver !!!

Idid what John suggested and they tied in with the car -might still go with some chrome ones in the future

All good calls....I would like to actually see the suggestions. Anyone have a silver car with black, silver or Argent SSII rims that can post a picture? Thanks guys. Mike

Or, like mine, a complimenting color.....I get tons of nice comments even though the stripes belong on a 442.....

Hello! Mine are black to tie into my srtipe and and paint scheme. They were body coloured before a rescent re-spray.

There are some pictures here....

agree that wheels painted a slightly different color than body look bad and also suggest to others a lack of attention to detail (tho not true)....even though perhaps factory correct.

I'd go with body color or black...not correct, but better looking.

Or sell/swap those and get a set of SSI's. The black and chrome might look sharp with silver paint. John
