Wondering if anyone knows if these rims are a great buy? I’m paying $250 are a special type? how much is to much? I am going to go look at them this weekend thanks.

 

Since you didn't tell us the price, it's hard to tell if they are a "great buy". They appear to be 14x7 with snap-in centers. Not rare.

 

Those are 1978 and later 14x6 snap on caps. Not rare at all. $250 is too much. Especially if tires are junk.

 

Really? I seen them selling for $800-1000 and those aren’t originals that’s for the 17-18” though. I figured I’d settle for the 14” and eventually get some 18’s sport types rims.

 

The 14s have limited tire sizes available. For most they are either an economy choice, an original restoration choice, or they make a nice spare tire $150 and up for a set of 4 depending on condition and completeness ie ctr caps, trim rings, d rings.

there are 15s w snap on ctr caps that have a larger tire size Selection, these are still popular w many owners i have a set myself , $300 plus per setof 4 depending on condition and completeness ie ctr caps, trim rings, d rings.

to add theres 80s style SS3 rims in 14 and 15” sizes they are all or mostly chrome, the 15s are more desirable due to tire availibilty, i would guess pricing to be similar to the painted SS2s above. Most of the 15s have been hoarded and are stacked in sheds and are kinda hard to find in good shape.

there are aftermarket similar style rims in larger sizes like 17 and 18s expect to pay $600 plusfir aset of 4 usually these have no trim or d rings but do have a ctr cap

there are also original SS2 bolt on center cap styles in 15”. Those rims can command a premium. i would guess prices might start at $800 plus for a set depending on condition

 

The set you show look decent. If the tires were in good shape, and i needed some i might pay 250 for them, if the tires were not good ( check the date code) evenif the tread is good, and i still wanted them $100 tops.

be sure they fit your car iirc there is some lug space differences w cutlasses and bigger cars.

 

I downloaded the image and expanded it. 3 tires are Michelin Harmony (decent tire) and 1 is a Dunlop winter tire. Not a matched set of tires. So I would suggest that the wheels are worth $120 with all the trim, but the tires are a big question mark as others have alluded. Date code is important - most tires are only considered acceptable for 10 years after manufacture unless you live in TX where they're good till the steel belts wear off.

 

Keep in mind that the original tires on a 1978 D88 were FR78-15. These tires had a 27.22" outside diameter. You cannot buy a 14" tire today that is close to that size or load range. The best you can do today is 225/70-14, which is only 26.5" OD. I strongly recommend that these are not the right wheels for your car.

 

Would you happen to know if I could put and adapter or wheel spacers to fit fine?

Those wheels will bolt to your car with no adapters needed. The 14" diameter will mean that you cannot buy tires of the appropriate overall diameter for your car. Keep in mind that smaller tires have a lower load rating, and that's not a light car.

The right tires are no longer manufactured. You will not be able to find the right tires at any reasonable cost. Smaller tires will make your speedometer read wrong. They can overheat and blow up on a long highway drive if they can't support the weight of the vehicle. The car might not handle as well. You gas mileage will drop and engine RPM will increase on the highway. There may be some specialty manufacturers making nice looking but poorly performing tires for say $300 per tire. Most people choose to upgrade to 15" wheels for a reason.

 

The right tire will not be available for those size rims is what he is saying.

 

How about 205-75-r14?

 

It's diameter is 26.14" vs stock tire size of 27.22", it will look like a low rider. Your determined to use those wheels aren't you?

 

Ok I see now by you saying it’s look like a lowrider pretty much clears it for me. Yes I drove to have them I don’t want the low look just something that will make it look nice and not to make the car look like an eye sore.
i want 18-20” but there pricey especially the steel I refuse to get aluminum rims I had a bad experience with those on my 300 srt8

 

The closest to buy locally near you would probably be a 225 70 14 (26.4 height). Otherwise to come closer to the 27 in tire coker or another reproduction company would have them at 4 times the price each.
