One of these things is not like the other.
One of these things is not like the other.
Hoping Orange 442 could help me out.
Four LE code wheels.
All chrome. The first three are code M48 96 LE's.
The final mate is M48 24 60.
I don't think these will fit factory discs.
Not sure of the years at all.
Thanks for any help on these guys, Adam.

M48 9 6 LE
M = Motor Wheel Corp
4 = plant #4
8 = 1968
9 = September
6 = 6th day of month
LE = application
M48 2 4 60
M = Motor Wheel Corp
4 = plant #4
8 = 1968
2 = February
4 = 4th day of month
60 = 6.0" wide
I'll "ASSUME" they went to the application code for the '69 model year, but they aren't "LY"? disc brake wheels.

Thanks Hurst.
No, the three are LE code.
Do you think they
are 6" wide as well?
The one 60 Feb. code seems to be
a match to the others but doesn't
have an LE anywhere on it.
That being said, The tires are still
on them, so I would have to pull them
to get the inside codes of course.
Thoughts?

The far right bottom wheel is a typical '66-'69 non-disc brake 14x6.0" SSI wheel. (are the rest identical in rim shape/depth/etc.?)
The 60 was used to identify the wheel as 6" wide & there was only one version used '66-'68, the Feb. '68 wheel is a '68 model year wheel.
When the need arose for a wheel to clear the new for '69 sliding single piston disc brake calipers a second SSI wheel was designed/manufactured - at this point codes were used to differentiate between the two wheels (apparently "LE" for drum brakes & "LY" for disc brakes).

Yes, the LE code indicates 14X6 SSI wheels for 1969. They work only for drum brakes.
The super stock wheel option (chrome wheel) used in the '66 and '67 model years (option code PO5) didn't have the LE code stamped on them, although they are essentially the same as the LE-coded wheel for model year '69 and were available on A body cars with drum brakes. Supposedly, the chrome super stock wheel wasn't produced for model year '68 as a new wheel (what we now call the SSII but shown in model year '68 as the same option code P05 used for the earlier chrome super stock wheel in '66 and '67) was introduced. However, due to production problems with the SSII, it appears some '68 A body cars came with SSI wheels, either from the factory or installed by the dealer.
For model year '69, that's when we first heard the term SSI and SSII and both were available as options. The SSI chrome wheel (LE code) went back to option code PO5 and the SSII painted wheel (LS code) went to option code N66.
It appears that, around early April 1969, an SSI wheel became available for A body cars with disc brakes. They had an LY code stamped into them. It also appears these wheels had a limited life. I personally have only seen LY wheels dated from early April 1969 to mid-July 1969 and that's it.

Thank you both for clearing
this up for me.
The wealth of information from
the boys on CO is absolutly priceless.
Well Ted, If the fellow from El Paso
decides he does not want my LY's...
