Olds wheel I.D.

I have four 14" x ? I took off my 71 442. They are obviously not the original wheels but I would like to know exactly what they are? As far as I know they are SS wheels with snap on center caps. Is there a way to tell the width of the rim without taking the tire off? Is there a stamp or marking somewhere that tells the width? I am looking to sell them but want to be able to describe them. I'm thinking 1978 and newer?

If you take one to a tire shop, they can use the caliper they use at the balancing machine to determine the width properly. Just looking at them in the picture its hard to determine. If they are 14 X 6 then the tire size could be 195-75-14 but as large as 215-70-14, but the sidewall will bulge out a little. Looking at the deeper trim ring, they APPEAR to be 14 X 7's which are more desireable of the 14" SSIII wheels, and harder to find.

So what you have are SSIII wheels, if they are 14 X 6 they are the MOST common ones to be had and not worth a ton. IMHO the tire on that rim is worth more than the rim itself.

Good luck.

Those are 14x7. The trim rings for the 14x6 wheels are much narrower.

Yes, definitely 7s. The trim ring has a closed race track shape for the valve stem opening. With 6s, the space for the valve stem on the trim ring is open at the back.

Holy cow! Those look exactly like the ones I just took off my 72 Cutlass 2 days ago, even the same color.........ok, I just went and looked in my garage; they're still there!!! Can breathe easier now.

Good luck with the sale. BTW, mine are 14X7 also

I think if they have snap-on center caps they will be 14 x 6. In 78 and up they just have a different off set that allows for a wide trim ring.
