New Rim/Tires

New Rim/Tires
I have a 1966, 2 door coupe Cutlass. I just finished installing a front disc brake conversion kit from The Right Stuff. The rear brake conversion is next. I had 14" steel factory rims with power drums brakes. I am looking at Vintique (52 Series) 15 x 7 SSI Rally reproductions for all four wheels. They spec out at 15 x 7, 5 x 4.75, back space 4.375". Hopefully the Vintique rims will have no issues going over the new caliper setup from the The Right Stuff. Vintique said these rims would be fine as long as the calipiers are normal sized and not nothing fancy like Wildwood and the like. OPGI seems to have the best deal for these vintage reproduction rims. The center caps and the other needed stuff come as a package deal. Upping 1 inch on tire size from 14" to 15", should be no big deal, right? I have new factory height springs on front and rear. Tire size? Will 235-60-15s be a good choice? I don't want any rubbing heartache. I do want the same size tire on all four wheels. I asked this kind of question awhile back and got some great answers and pictures but now I am ready to actually buy tires. Vintique who is out of CA., is way behind on production due to Covid issues. The rims are still a few months out from being ready. I look forward to hearing any advice you can offer.

I do not know what size tire can fit on the front of that year and clear everything, as in not rub on turns. I can say that 235-60-15 tires have a VERY short sidewall, which is great for handling but makes the tire diameter very small. Compare the diameter of the 235-60-15s to your current tires to see if there is a difference, and if so, how much, so that you know if the speedometer will need to be recalibrated or not.

Look up the original tire size and find the diameter, Make sure the diameter of the new tires you choose is within 1/2 inch of the original. It is possible that 235/60 15 will match up closely with the diameter of the original 14" tires. Perhaps you can search this forum to see if anyone installed that size on a 72 Cutlass. It's a common enough car that someone may have already posted your answer.

I found this link that might be helpful to others in search of possible tire/rim upgrades. http://www.oldsmobility.com/old/fitting-wheels.htm
This link talks about biggest meats for your tires. I on the other hand am just looking to bump up just 1 inch on the rim diameter.
The current tires on my 1966 Cutlass original steel rims are FR-78-14, which when converted to modern metric numbers are 200/70-14 and/or 195/0-14. I want to go to 15" rims. The WWW tells me that 215/70-R15 and/or 235/60-R15 on a slightly wider rim (I am going to a 15 x 7 rim) will provide a very close diameter to that of the originals. I appreciate this site and the enthusiasm of folks helping folks.
I made a correction from my last post. One of the tire sizes above was a typo. Also, another good tire comparison link: https://tiresize.com/comparison/
