Mastercraft or Cooper?

Stuck on two tire choices, both being very close in price (Mastercraft cheaper by a few bucks). Either Mastercraft Avenger G/T or the Cooper Cobra G/T. Anyone have any thoughts for either? Car is going to be a "Sunday cruiser"... not racing or anything!

I am planning on a set of 225/70 R14 for my 72 Cutlass with SSII wheels. I have seen that is a good size to get. Let me know your thoughts!

Much appreciated.

It does not matter because they are the same tire. Cooper owns Mastercraft.

I find the rubber in those is real hard. Forget traction. If you are lookikng to cruise either will serve you just fine.

same here, but I agree; the rubber in that particular tire seems "extra hard" almost like a "LOAD E" Truck/towing tire! Let us know what you end up with.

My 70 Cutlass has Cooper Cobras and I don't have a problem with them on NYC potholes.

x17 on Cooper Cobras - Good all around tire, hard compound not great in wet w/ torquey car & no hook @ track (even though it's not a concern).

Edit - I just looked @ the first pic in my sig, that's Cobras showing some hook but once they break loose there's no getting them restuck.

I recently bought a set of BF Goodrich tires manufactured by Coker. Excellent set of tires. They have a nostalgic look without the high price of the reproduction Firestone Wide-Ovals. I bought them online through Summit which appears to be the way to go. Buying them straight from Coker is more expensive. And Summit had the tires delivered to my door for free. I think I paid $450.00 for a set of four.
I have no experience with Cooper tires so I can't compare the two brands.

Thanks for all the comments. Glad either tire seems to be good for the car. Looking closer at the tread, I think the coopers I like more beacuse the tread looks wider.. at least looks it. The side wall very quickly transitions to the tread where the mastercraft looks less agressive and tappers in more. Plus with all the good mentions on the coopers I figure its worth the extra couple bucks. I should have them under the car on wednesday. Thanks!
