Jegs SSR Star

Anyone get these installed on their 70-72 Cutlass/442?

https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/681283/10002/-1

15x10 rear and 15x7 front is what I am looking at getting.

Great bang for buck and the style is good also, in my opinion.

I would do the 5.5" BS. I have 18x10's w/ 5.5 BS on the back with 285 tires and things start getting cozy. You can get a 305 tire to fit if you're very precise.
I have some interference with my Pypes tailpipes, but got good room to the body lip. Hitting the exhaust pipe doesn't matter too much, but hitting the lip would mess things up.

I don't think 4.5" BS on a 15x10 will fit (without issues). I have 5" BS on my 15x10 and 295/50 tire and I had to roll the lip to prevent it from rubbing. 5.5" BS on a 10" wheel is ideal for A body cars.

You will be causing yourself grief with a 4.5" backspace wheel, you want a 5.5" backspace....

15 x 10, 5.5" bs and 325/50 tire...no cutting, rolling, etc. Moves freely through suspension travel without rubbing...

So 15x10 with a 5.5" backspacing.

Are those the JEGS SSR Star in Chrome?

Not sure if to go with Star in black or chrome?

Those are nice rims but too pricey for me at $380 per rim.

Beautiful 442. What size rims & tires do you have in the front?

What does the car run?

I run the ssr spikes from jegs I went with the 15x8's and 15x4's I preciously had centerliens 15x10 with 5.5 BS. I like the look of a 275 60 15 on a 15x10 .

So 15x10 with 5.5" backspacing.

What about Bolts & Bolt Circle? Is it 5-4.75" or 5-4.50"

On a 1972 442 with front OEM disc brakes. What is the proper backspacing on a 15x7 rim? 4" or 4.5"

The standard GM bolt circle is 5x4.75. 5x4.5 is a ford thing.
I would do 4.5" BS on a 7" rim on the front.
One thing to keep in mind is you can always correct too much backspace with spacers, but you can't do jack about too little backspace.

Just torn between the Jegs SSR in GLOSS BLACK or POLISHED ALUMINUM.

Gloss Black are $400 for a set while Polished Aluminum are $480 for the set.

Vehicle is light blue so it will not have the "murdered" look a black on black vehicle would with black rims.

Just note that polished aluminum is a lifestyle choice.

They have to be maintained. The aluminum will corrode if left alone. Must be polished and waxed on a regular basis. If you don't enjoy removing wheels (if the hoop is polished - gotta get the back side too!), cleaning, polishing and waxing a few times a year, then go with painted or powder coated wheels.

Major PITA. I did it for the Cutlass, but went for painted rims on my daily.

Whatever matches the tread width you want to run up there. The tire manufacturers always show min/recommended/max wheel widths for each tire size.
I'm running a 245 front tire, so a 8" rim.
If you want street handling, then go wide.
If you want drag times, go narrow.
If you want style, well, whatever style you want!

What's the tallest front tire height an "A" body can fit with disc brakes? 28 or 30 inches?

That would depend on the ride height. I've run 29" MT frontrunners with approx a 2" drop.

If a rim is rated for 1,200 lbs per rim. Would they be adequate for a 1972 442 convertible that weighs 4,000 lbs with a driver or is that cutting it close?

You are overthinking this and those wheels are rated at 2,100 lbs. per wheel

When you are talking weight and wheels i belive that's usually per corner. I have some 15x3 centerlines that are super light much lighter than the jegs wheels and I never had an issue with them .
