Cutlass Rally Wheels

Found a pair for sale and wondering what came on my 1980 Cutlass 14x6 or 14x7?

The set is 14x6.

Ant problems using them?

14x6 might not clear front disc brakes.

The 1979 Hurst Olds aluminum wheels were also used on the 1980 Hurst Olds. So the diameter should be fine. I'm pretty sure, but not an expert that the SSIII with snap on centers in 14X6 were used on early 1980's vintage cars.

Would gold go with the color of your paint?

A 14 x 6 snap-on center cap wheel were used on 78-87 Cutlass rwd cars. Also on some of the X body Omegas.

Do you have a set of gold wheels? My cutlass is burgundy. Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.

One more time:

ALL factory SSII/III wheels of any width/diameter/center cap style will clear FACTORY 10.75" disc brakes, as they came that way from the factory. No guarantees for aftermarket repro wheels or aftermarket disc brake kits that are not exact replicas of factory discs.

My 78 Omega came with 14x7 SSIII's. Not sure if that was because it had FE2 suspension or if they all came that way.
It looked kind of funny with the E78-14 whitewalls. They came off after the first week and F70-14 Wide Ovals went on.

Are whitewalls no longer politically correct?

In my personal experience, they are not, except in certain circles. It's like the general disdain by many for extra-big pro-touring-type wheels. The difference is, for those who don't like the wheels, they will say they are the wrong choice, but for those who don't like whitewalls, they will say you're crazy. I still like whitewalls, despite the social stigma they carry.

In their day, whitewalls were very popular & common on the Olds Super Stock wheels. By the late 70's virtually all performance cars wore white lettered tires. In the late 80's, white letters started to disappear in favor of all black sidewalls. It's really more of a fashion statement than anything else.

In my car's case the tires looked funny because the size (E78-14) was too small for 14x7 rims. They were stretched to fit the beads, with a skinny tread surface. It wasn't because of the whitewalls. However - the wide ovals' white lettering did look "cooler"

What about redline tires? Just a waste of cash or something for the elite restoration?

The 1979 Hurst Olds aluminum wheels were also used on the 1980 Hurst Olds.
No H/O in 1980, though the '80 442 W30 was identical in every aspect, minus the H/O logos and the addition of 442 emblems, W30 stickers and quad rectangular headlights.

last year available on an Olds was 1969, and many guys like them if their cars originally came with them, and they do look nice with many paint schemes. But repo's ain't cheap!
