68 Cutlass New Wheels and Tires Input

Looking to pull the trigger on some new wheels and tires for my 68 Cutlass vert. You guys thoughts on this staggered combo and fitment. Not wanting any issues and wanting some sidewall. Currently running stock drums all around and stock height, will do a basic disk conversion and drop spindles or lower springs on the front and back in near future.
Here's what I look to get.
Ridler 695 5 spoke gray centers.
18x8 zero offset and 4.5 BS for the front with 245 40 18 tires 25.72 tall
18x9.5 +6 offset and 5.5 BS for the rear with 255 45 18 tires 27.04 tall

Rear 255 45 18 max rim size is 9.5 will this make the sidewall appear to taper in as it goes toward the tread...if that makes sense? I.E like the tread width is narrower than the rim width. Could I go bigger?

If you haven't bookmarked this already, here's an awesome tool for calculating wheel offsets and overall tire size: http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

I'm looking to do te same exact set up on my 69 cutlass but I just bought an air ride suspension. Did you find out if these sizes will work? I've been researching for a week now.

The wheel company I'm dealing with says they do not recommend an overall diameter of 26.5 inches. They're saying 255/45R18 is too tall but I've seen people running it on cutlass and chevelle. I just don't know for sure if they've done any modifications to fit it. I'm not doing drop spindles. I got air bags. Want to slam it low in park and raise to a nice ride height while driving. Im thinking 245 rear and 225/45R18 front will be safe. That's what the wheel specialist is telling me.
